Duke won and I’m pissed! Oh yeah, UNCle Ernie

UNC lost to Duke last night 89-78. The Tar Heels were without Ty Lawson and the turnovers just kept coming. The UNC defense was awful, allowing Duke to hit 13 3-pointers and allowed them to sread the floor for easy shots. But enough about how much I hate Duke right now, on to UNCle Ernie.

UNCle Ernie is the king of open or ambiguous endings. In “The Killlers” two men come into a diner looking to kill a man who usually comes to a diner for dinner every night. The man, Ole Anderson , never showed up. When they left to go find him, Nick Adams ran him down and told him what was going down. Once he returns, disgusted that Ole Anderson will just accept his death is coming, wants to help him in some way but, the owner of the place tells him, “Well, . . . You better not think about it” This suggests the feeling of lonliness and that we are all alone in life. I believe that Ole Anderson will be killed from the tone of the owner’s, George’s, voice when in the above quote he tells Nick Adams not to worry about Anderson’s problems but only be concerned of your own.

  1. Diction–and don’t mix your entries. Expand, too, on what you’ve written here.

  2. No one cares about DUKE or UNC! Well, atleast not in relation to english class. (I still don’t think I’m stupid). You’re right about his open endings and they are so annoying. I like when everything’s tied up with a nice neat bow. =]

  3. College Basketball does matter and UNC beat Duke this weekend to secure the ACC regular season title and I am PUMPED!

I am a big fan of the open ending because I like how the author leaves it up to the reader to interpret the ending and how the characters lives will pan out

  4. If I knew what any of that basketball stuff meant, I’d try to be happy for you. I don’t like it in school because I’ll go off an interpret something other than what the author or the teacher wants you to see, and then I get annoyed when its not the same. =]

  5. Dude I think you just stated what happend. What is your attribute? Where are your quotes? You really need some more info in this blog. If I wear to use an attribute on this blog you wrote it would be an open ending because you are clearly not finished here. State your attribute back it up and get over the fact Duke will always be better then UNC because it’s no reason to right a crap blog over it.

  6. I didnt write about this in my essay but you are right with the open ending. I think the story would have been better though if there was more action with him getting into a fire fight or something buttttt the stroy still had a good plot, waiting for the man to either come in or not show up kept me on the edge of my seat.
